Description

IC 1318, also known as the γ-Cygni Nebula (Gamma Cygni Nebula) or Butterfly Nebula, is an emission nebula and H-II region in the constellation Cygnus. The nebula is about 4900 light-years from Earth and 100 light-years across. At the center of the nebula lies the star Sadr, at a distance of 1500 light-years. IC 1318 is divided into three parts IC 1318 A, IC 1318 B and IC 1318 C, which are different from each other. IC 1318 B and IC 1318 C are separated by the 20 light-year wide dark cloud LDN 889.
